D-I-E Task

Describe
Having been in Finland for nearly 3 months, getting the “container deposit” whenever I bought a drink is one of the most surprising things to me. At first, I didn’t understand the word “container deposit” in Finnish and thought that was just something I bought but didn’t remember. Then, I got confused when I saw that “product” on my bills so many times so I finally translated and googled about it.

Interpret
According to what I found out, government pass the “Container-deposit legislation” in order to encourage people to recycle. When the container is returned to an authorized redemption center, or to the original seller in some jurisdictions, the deposit is partly or fully refunded to the redeemer. This can be both voluntary or mandated legislation.

Evaluate
I think this “Deposit-refund system” should be applied worldwide. Thanks to it, people will have better awareness to recycle to reduce energy and material usage for containersAdditional, streets, rivers or some other public places will be also cleaner since people can get money from picking empty cans, bottles or glasses.
