That was at a fantastic night which was the day at the end of Summer in September. At that night,I knew an amazing Finnish singer-Jenni Vartiainen.
It was a very normal day for my before I came to the city centre. After dinner with my friends, they wanted to go around the city centre because of the special day.So I just went with them. There were many people around the stage where near the H&M,that was the first time I felt crowded when I came to Finland.A male looked like compere said something in Finnish and then two girl went up onto the stage. Many people around me opened their camera and started clapping.
Because of long waiting, some of my friends wanted to go other places. I did not know why but just wanted to stay at that moment. It was a totally good choice.I felt that it seemed to have met before when one girl began to sing the first sentence. All lyrics were in Finnish, but it sounded like the melody in my heart. What a strange feeling!
But I kept calm in her time. After that,I asked one girl beside me"Who is she?".Then I knew her name-Jenni-Vartiainen.
When I came back home,I started to find all the things about her on the Internet and downloaded all her songs. It sounded crazy but really happened on me.I was really addicted to her attractive voice.By the way,the tune and special design in MV was also very nice.
And now,I become one of her fans.

Music Task: Delta Force and Monster Hamster @ Corner's Pub
On October 21st, I attended and participated in a gig at Corners Pub. My band (Monster Hamster) and another band (Delta Force) played and following that there was a short skit by some of the theater students. It was a full house and we were able to play fun pop songs as well as some slower more sweet sounding songs. Delta Force played some great alternative rock songs, and the theater students put on a great show!
The setlist for Monster Hamster was:
Thinking About You by Calvin Harris
The Nearness Of You originally recorded by Hoagy Carmichael and then remade by Norah Jones
Counting Stars by OneRepublic
Vem Vet by Lisa Ekdahl
Like A Star by Corinne Bailey Rae
Thriller by Michael Jackson
After we played, Delta Force took the stage and rocked the house with these songs:
Tuulee by Don huonot
Jos tahdot tietää by Maarit Hurmerinta
Mestaripiirros by Egotrippi
All at sea by Jamie Cullum
Kärleken väntar by Kent
Undantag by Bo Kaspers Orkester
Tompkins square park by Mumford & Sons
Moondance by Van Morrison
Then the theater students came and performed a two person skit about a news reporter doing a segment on a sports character, then getting caught drinking on set, and then reporting on a dancer. It was really cool and even though it was all in Finnish, it was fun to watch and to understand what was going on!
I really enjoyed myself, and after talking to all of the other musicians before and after the show, they all had a good time too! It was amazing to be able to play with and to talk to such talented people and see how they view performing and learning about performance and music.

Music Task
On October 8th, I attended Centria Night Music, which was held by Centria students and teachers. It was a really awesome experience because I had the chance to enjoy music in both English and Finnish, but mostly by Finnish.
The opening was performed by a band named "En höstvisa, trad" ( I think so) There were 5 people, each one played an instrument such as violin, harmonium, guitar, acoustic bass guitar,... And after that, there was an Opera performance, which was pretty impressive. The Opera was accompanied by a pianist.

They together sang some Finnish songs and 5 Finnish folk songs. My favourite was "Hilu hilu". At first I thought Finnish wasn't for Opera but I was so wrong, it sounded very nice.
Next, there was a guy who sang a song-composed song with his guitar. The song was about Kalevala, a Finnish myth. It had an elegant melody and sweet feelings, which made it stand out from the rest.
The first part ended at 7PM and I came back for the forth part, which was more like an international segment. The first band to perform was "Soft Potatoes", which sounds really cute and Finnish. There were 4 core members and 1 special guest, Colin Harvey (the American exchange student). They also played instruments such as grand piano, acoustic guitar, electric bass and drums. Three English songs were performed but with some changes in the genres so they all sounded interestingly different.
I did enjoy Centria Night Music very much. I will definitely participate again if I have the chance next time!

MY INTRODUCTION
My name is
Hoang Luong Manh Cuong and I am 18 years old. I am from Vietnam which is the beautiful
country in Asia. My hometown is a sea city in the South Vietnam and the name of
my hometown is Vung Tau city. We have a lot of natural resources from the ocean, especially petroleum and gas. Vung Tau City is also famous about tourism because we have a beautiful
seaside around the city.
I live in Vung Tau city when I was born. There are four people in my family and we
live in a big house together. We have 9 rooms in my house so I think this is
the best palace for me when I want to take a rest. At weekend, I often spend many times playing basketball and watching movies with my friends.
Moreover, I like cooking some Vietnamese food and making some coffee when I
have free time. I have a small dream that is I want to be a Barista.
In my
hometown, I have studied in a famous school which is for the gifted students -
Le Quy Don High School. In my opinion, it is so far from my home, about 7
kilometers. In contrast, I think Le Quy Don High School is the best choice for studying high school in Vung Tau City such as good environment, new furniture, useful systems
and experienced teachers.
Now, I did
finish my high school course so I chose Centria University of Applied Sciences in Finland to study higher. I have
spent many times on researching about studying in Finland so I think Finland is
the good environment for me to develop my future career. Finnish people are so
friendly and Finland is a peaceful country. There are many differences
between Finland and Vietnam especially food, culture. I made friends with some
people in my university and I was so impressed by my tutor. His name is Karim
and he is from Bangladesh. He helped me a lot when I started living in Finland.
Following that, my new life in Finland is not quite hard because there are many
Vietnamese in Kokkola city.
When I made
decision to become IT engineer, I thought computer is important in human life
and I like creating some useful software to help my country. I want to change
my country a lots because Vietnam is a small country and I think the Vietnamese
young generation have to make some victory things in order to confirm the
development of Vietnam with every countries.
Finally, I
have a big dream in my future career. After university, I want to create a
influential software and open coffee shop in my hometown. I am trying to make
that become true.
Hello everyone, nice to meet you!
My name is Nguyen Trong Nhan and I come from Viet Nam, studying Information Technology in Centria.
The main reason why I choose Finnish Society and Culture is to have deep insight into exotic culture and the ways Finnish people think. I have many hobbies such as singing, cleaning and chatting with other people.
I always try to improve my ability to use Finnish and English as a second language because it plays a vital role in my lifes here. When I come here I faced culture shock but now it is better thanks to help from my friends in Kokkola.
Everyone can make friend with me via Facebook: Nguyen Trong Nhan

Nhi Ngo
Hi, my name is Nhi. I live in Da
Nang City- the fifth largest city in Vietnam. It is one of the major port
cities in my country and it has a lot of cool bridges. For example: Han Bridge,
Dragon Bridge...In the middle of the night, traffic is stopped from crossing the
Han Bridge and it swings on its axis to allow shipping traffic to pass along
the river. Dragon Bridge was designed and built in the shape of a dragon and to breathe fire and water each Saturday and Sunday night at 9PM.
I'm really interested in this course because I could understand more about culture as well as Finnish people.

Dear all,
Welcome to "after holiday class"! We will start with wrapping up on Finnish values. I will introduce a new task, where I want you to describe, interpret and analyze (D-I-E) a "cultural bump". You will make the blog post with Description, Interpretation and Evaluation as an individual post. It will then be commented in a multicultural group.
Then we will continue to reflect on the visit to Donnerska skolan and look a bit into Finnish Education.
D-I-E and Education presentation
See you at 8:00 at Centria, room 282.
Best regards,
Linda Krokfors
PS. Students, who were not in class on 19 October, contact Linda Krokfors by e-mail. I need to set you up with a group for the DIE task!

Music Task
Last Thursday, 8 of October, in the Centrian konserttisali it was held
the Centria Night Music. Although I couldn’t assist to all the concerts, I got
a really good view of the different styles that were played.
One of the plays in the concert was from J. Sibelius, a Finnish composer
who was born in 1865 in Hämeenlinna. From what I read in the
internet, he composed music for orchestra, mainly for piano and violin, but he
also composed music for choir and orchestra. The composer said this in an
interview with Berlingske Tidende, 10th June 1919: “Music begins where the possibilities
of language end. That is why I write music”. This gave me an idea of what kind of composer was him. He played a really important role in the definition of
the Finnish national identity and now a days he is remembered as one of the
best Finnish composers.
The group that I saw played
Jägargossen by J.Sibelius. The singer was Aksel Alakärppä, baritone and in the
piano there was Pauliina Virkkala. I don’t go to listen to opera often, but I
must say I could enjoy that piece of Finnish music, even if I couldn’t
understand it, the melody of it and the voice of Aksel made me feel like I wasn’t
touching the grown anymore and in my mind there was only that music. I also saw
other groups who sang in English, one of them, the soft potatoes, had our friend
Colin Harvey who played really good. Then there was another group who sang in
English but they added one more song that was not on the leaflet and I think it
was in Finnish. Anyway the concerts were amazing and the strength of the
musicians gave the public the feeling of being part of the music.
