Most Honest Cities: The Reader’s Digest “Lost Wallet” Test

In this post i choose to talk about something particular that retain my mind when i was reading an article on Internet . This article is talking about the honesty of Finns , the article's name is Most Honest Cities: The Reader’s Digest “Lost Wallet” Test. It aims to test the honesty of some cities in the world.  How the test where organise ? Simple guys ! 16 countries where chose for the test and the goal where to leave 12 wallet at different place in each cities .

Results:

As we can see on the result Helsinki is on the top of the list that's mean on 12 wallets 11 where found and explain the honesty of this country, people doesn't have any reason to don't feel safety .

When i came in Finland, i heard that the country where I'm going is one of the most safety and kokkola is also one of the peaceful place where to live. Since i came , i can say that through my experiences, first of all i was surprised to see people leaving their bag and jacket  at school before enter  in the class  without thinking  about losing their stuffs. For me it was not possible at this moment i remember that i was afraid to do the same things but nowadays i learn to trust in the honesty of the people and start leaving my bags and jacket  without be afraid about something that can happen. This is one of the quality that i really appreciate from Finns comparing to other country.

Now let come to reason that motivate me to chose this topic or this article because i think is important to communicate on the qualities that a countries have and to help people to know more about . Personally i was interesting by   this article because I'm living in Finland and it's interesting to know that even if the culture is different from mine Finns are honest and the least corrupt people in the world that make me to feel safety and comfortable.

The Brink's Old Vicarage

It is an honest for us to meet Mrs. Katrina Isotalo, the owner of Brink´s Old Vicarage.

The old, beautiful building Brink ´s Old Vicarage is just outside the center of Kokkola. This place is has been the residence of the chaplain until recently. The vicarage was built at the beginning of the 19th Century and has been kept largely in its original state.
Creating the best accommodation around Kokkola is her main target. Due to this is family business and she would like to build a place to live near in her family. There are includes 2 different hotels.
The affordable and idyllic rooms of vicarage or enjoy the charming rooms and beds in the attic rooms is paid attention of us. This is an useful experiment for any new foreign students. The new comers always be welcome in this groups. In the evenings everybody who wants to can enjoy the taste of “Finnish grilled makkara” and tell stories while watching and enjoying the flames of a fire. Help us not only improve the Finnish language skills, but also Finnish culture.

Mrs. Katrina Isolato spent more around 1 hour to meet and share with us about the place where she build up and what she expect from this place. Firstly, cheaper and flexible is one of the characters made her hotel be well known than another hotel. But cheap in price is not meant cheap in quality, her purpose is make customers feels be like home. The best and ready to service good meal to customers is the top-mission in this hotel. Customers have two options that enjoy their breakfast on dinning room or order direct from their room. The main food on the menu is porridge, which takes 30 minutes to serve.
There are 2 different hotels. One has the name is Villa Carleborg, which include the breakfast. The second is brinkin wanha pappila, which was be prefer by customer because of the cosy room and good furniture.
Although both hotels have its strength but same the service system, customer feedbacks is very important to her hotel, she always received the direct feedbacks in manager and employees and students.
This is some picture Ms Katrina send for us by her Facebook (References: https://www.facebook.com/katrina.isotalo?fref=ts)

Besides that, activities as sauna and sports also supply in the hotel to make sure customers can enjoy in the best way. Moreover, coffee shop or event are established on her hotel to grateful to customers.
With her, the key of success to establish the hotel are good price, profitable
and investigate on new modern technology as Internet. With good website design and the help from search engine the customers can search her hotel faster than ever. Also with well booking system.
Services her company provide accommodation.

As an BM and IT student, Chau Nguyen and Chau Huynh would like to work in this field especially for this company. her major somehow related to this kind of job and Katrina’s company is also a potential company.Unfortunately, in many reasons, we lost the pictures of us with her.

The useful article.

The article has the title is “ Cardiologist: Snow work could contribute to heart attack risk.”
This article is based on the report of Oulu University Hospital.
According to the research, the heart attack occurs by doing arduous activities in winter and outside condition. Shoveling snow is a common active in the winter but this activity can bring some disadvantage affects to the human life. Base on the research that this activity creates dynamic and isometric, which appears when you do arduous activity as running. It requires more pressure when people move a huge amount of snow to another place, in this time, blood pressure happens.
The article also pointed out the reason that un-correct use shovel for snow. With some men, they’d like to use a huge shovel for saving time and make their house or road in front of their house are more clear.
To resolve that, Fiskars (a tools company) and some doctors had some recommends that “has a moulded base and the shape is more important” and for people don’t waste too much energy on this, they can use spray for the shovels, or use silicon or candle wax for their shovels to not stick to the snow. These two useful solutions somehow decrease heart attack phenomenon in the human body.
This article paid attention to me because my father is a victim of heart attack. Fortunately, my father disease is not too hard but we do everything to make him happy and help him restrict to do anything, which somehow can make him easily in the high blood pressure.
When I read this article, it reminded me to my father, but it also a lesson for me to live in Kokkola.
This is really useful information for any person, who is not only live in Finland but also in any cold area.

Research in Finland

Taken from http://sciencenordic.com/, a site gathering most research news on Health, Society & Culture, Environment, Technology, Agriculture & Fisheries, and Natural Sciences. Link to the article: http://sciencenordic.com/about/research-finland

This article is a detailed summary of the primary research areas in Finland. The different groups of study of the Finnish science system, the divisions of institutions for every research system and the details on the way of working for the research center in Finland. There is a list of all the research firms of the country, and also a list of all the research institutions. It aims every people interested in making part of the great research system of a Nordic Country. Indeed, the site can also inform you about the research institutions of Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Sweden. There is also a tab on the way of studying in a Nordic country, explaining shortly what you will go through if you want to study in the North of Europe.

I chose this theme because I was interested in the domains of research developed by the Finnish people. It taught me some on the other Nordic Country also, and it was still attractive.

I taught me the different domains on which the consideration of Finland was, scientifically speaking. It explained the division of the studies, and the levels of framework accorded to the development of a research, with the agreement of the Finnish government and the Research and Innovation Council (because it still represents a certain amount of money given to research). Then I learned about the four-stage career system of someone working in the research system, which was like ranks. They also detail the Finnish working system (40 hours a week) and their holiday credit year which is like the French one. Almost every card is given to the interested in studying and working in the research domain, a very convenient article.

Music Task

I came to Finland in summer and I live in Kokkola 3 months, so I have attended many events in Kokkola, especially a music event in the church. That was the first time I went to the church and listened to choral such as Jesus at the center, God so loved, With Jesus through the shadows, Man of sorrows king of glory, etc. I was so impressed by Jesus at the center, which was sung by Mrs. Teija, Mr. Odudu Equere, Ms. Rebecka. This song has a great tune and the lyric is about Jesus. Jesus at the Center is a contemporary worship recorded and performed by Israel and New Breed. I do not have a religion, but I really like the church atmosphere, which is warm and relaxed.
MUSIC TASK

On the 5th of November, I had a chance to attend a Finnish concert in Kokkolan Conservatory with some of my friends. That was my first time to participate such a great concert since the day I came to Finland. That concert was held by the music school, with the participation of its teachers and students. I was so impressed by their talents and the emotions they gave into each performance. They even showed the lyrics of the songs through small pamphlets.

Most of the songs used in the concert were written by Erkki Melartin, a famous Finnish composer. As well as composing, Melartin (1875-1937) also taught and directed music at the Helsinki Music College, later the Helsinki Conservatory. He wrote six symphonies (1902–1924) and was the first Finnish composer to bear Mahler's influence. The Juhlamarssi from his ballet Sleeping Beautiful is the most popular wedding march in Finland.

We have had a wonderful time there with such beautiful performances. That was the experience which I never forget.

There are a lot of the works of many composers performed by many students. They are Allegro by S. Suzuki, Kiinalaiset Kengät by T. Marttinen, Symphony no. 4 by Mozart, Ode to Joy be Beethoven and so on.
I really enjoyed the work "Ode to Joy" performed by Beethoven with the contrabass. It's so amazing and generally the concert was so interesting. I loved it very much!

Music Task

I had a special opportunity to participate in music performance so called Centria Night Music taking place on the 8th October. My first impression on the concert was not good because it is the first time I have attended to a Finnish Music performance and I could not understand what they were singing about; however, this feeling had changed since the Opera Performance. It was a perfect combination of melody and vibrant sound from many musical instruments, such as violins, harmonium… I enjoyed a lot during that interesting memory. After that, there was a man who came to the stage and performed a self-composed song. His powerful voice combined with the guitar made a wonderful performance. To be honest, I could not understand the lyric but in overall, it was about a Berry girl. Next, I could enjoy many English-covered songs performed by some bands. That time is one of memorable times I have had in life. In my opinion, it does not matter what language of the music is, music can go deeply through audiences’ heart.

Ieva's polka

IEVA'S POLKA

On 10 July 2006, one of the news reported on Finnish newspaper Helsinin Sanomat is that loituma Girl has caused a huge influence of loitumas popularity, and the band had received thousands of fans letters all over the world. Since then, this song has been used on ads, films, TV shows and sports events.

And at that time, some of my classmates are the big fan of this song, and they translated it into our own language with the special style of our generation. We sang it on the New Years Art Festival evening concert, guess what, we won the third prize at that time which impressed me a lot.
To be honest, I dont know where it came from, and by this task, I understand that its a Finnish quartet, what a surprise! I cannot say Finnish, but I love this brisk tone which makes me feel like a busy bee working in the sunny Spring morning. Wo~, here, I have to declare that I cannot make sure whether I got what this song is going to express or not, all the feelings are just expressed by a music idiot^^

Finally, I got to say that I am not following the orders of this task. I know it is not right to make excuse for this, but ... I am a super lazy IT person who loves staying at home all day, and when I realize that I have to visit the concert, its already too late(T.T), so I choose to listen on the internet, the available website is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ygdAiDxKfI
