My name is Colin Harvey. I'm from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. I go to a University called Lock Haven University, located in Lock Haven, which is in the middle of Pennsylvania. I play volleyball and in-line roller hockey. My hockey team won the ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association) championships this past season. I also grew up playing American Football, and have even brought an American Football with me to Finland. I am 20 years old, and enjoy playing sports and also playing instruments. Most of the time I play guitar, but I also play bass, drums, or ukulele quite often. My friends and I perform at a cafe close to my University in America about once or twice per month.
I am excited to learn about Finnish culture and what the social norms are here in Finland. In the United States, I study Sociology, and learning about cultures interests me greatly. Most Americans do not know much about Finland, so I am excited to go back home and tell stories and educate them about this country. I am also very interested in noting the differences and the alternatives to the governmental, economic, and social systems that I have been raised around. The most heavy influence on my studies of Sociology at Lock Haven University is my professor and advisor Dr. Kimberly Johnson. She is a very experienced and knowledgeable professor who classifies herself as a minarchist. It has been very interesting learning in public american schools about the government and the approach to big government practices, and now to have an influence from a very small government perspective from my professor. I am interested to learn what the perspectives on government involvement, economics, and society are here in Finland.
